I was not expecting an album like this from Travis. The main vibe I got from listening was a more darker/hellish one, which is fine by me. Going into the album, I was expecting a vibe similar to Astroworld or Rodeo, but I was surprised by how different it was.
Now I'm all for experimental albums, but the first listen for me was pretty underwhelming. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews, and while I appreciate the older and darker vibes Travis was going for in Utopia, it hasn't resonated with me yet. Maybe it gets better with every listen, and to be honest most albums are underwhelming on the first listen. Compared to Lil Uzi's Pink Tape, the songs in Pink Tape have more replay value for me. Songs like Flooded the Face and Suicide Doors appeal more to me than all of Utopia.
I think it's too early to say whether this album was a hit or missed, especially because I've only listened to it once. I know Travis makes a lot of songs more hype when he's on tour, so hopefully he'll make Utopia more exciting there.
