Happy new year everyone! I finally finished all of my college apps and I got left to submit is my Brown introduction video (which of course I'm procrastinating). In this blog I'm just gonna go through my thoughts on the college apps process and my personal advice which you should probably take as a grain of salt.
Start early. Everybody says this but it can literally only do good for you. If you have no idea of what your gonna write about, just start jotting down ideas. Starting early will allow you to apply early (duh) which is good not just because you get your results faster, but because you get to look back and reuse and polish your essays used for early applications. My writing definitely improved as I wrote more essays, and if you don't start early you will never get the chance to do this.
Personal statement. This is your most important essay because you will submit this to almost all of the schools you apply to. Please please please give yourself the time to work on this, and work on this first. It took me a month and a half to really write my personal statement and the personal statement is honestly so much more than just your an essay you have to write. The personal statement tells who you are and when I wrote it, I really discovered who I was a person and where my motivations really lied. If you are going to perfect one essay, make it this one.
Supplementals. To be honest, a lot of the same ideas you can reuse in a lot of supplemental essays. Most colleges always have a diversity/community question and a why us/why major question and make sure you are ANSWERING THE PROMPT. If you struggle with writing in general like I somewhat did, just know what you want to talk about first and what topics you want to hit.
I hope this advice may be of some use to you and I hope you enjoyed the blog!
